The University of Hawai'i at Manoa Library welcomes visitors who are not affiliated with the University of Hawai'i. We are proud to be able to provide the Hawai'i community with access to this major academic research library. The University of Hawai'i at Manoa Library, including Hamilton Library and Sinclair Library, is open to any individual who wishes to use materials in the library buildings. During late night/over night hours (9:00pm - 7:30am) building access is limited to UH faculty, students and staff who present valid UH IDs. Many library materials are available on open shelves for self-retrieval. Selected materials are kept in protective storage and may not be available to all library users. In addition, for a reasonable fee, community members also may obtain certain borrowing privileges.
While the UHM Library provides reasonable access to the collections within the Libraries for all users, there is a distinction between access and borrowing privileges. Borrowing privileges for non-UH affiliated users, age 18 and over, are provided through purchase of a UH Library Community Borrower Card or Associates Card. These policies are available on this website. With a Community Borrower Card, visitors may:
Note: Purchase of a Community Borrower Card does not include access to intrasystem or interlibrary loans, computer labs, group study rooms, lockers, or remote access to restricted online databases.
University of Hawai'i (UH) faculty and staff may request Temporary Visitory Internet Access (VIA) for their visitors. VIA provides access to the Information Technology Service (ITS) managed wireless services on the UH-Manoa campus; to the ITS Hamilton Library CLIC computers, which are equipped with Microsoft Office; and to the library wireless printing system. VIA also provides wireless access at other campuses that use the ITS authentication infrastructure for access control. These are locations where you typically login with your UH username and password.
NOTE: Visitors must be sponsored by an active member of the UH faculty or staff. Access is limited to a maximum of 30 days. Access approval will take place within 1 business day. More information is available on the ITS VIA web site [http://www.hawaii.edu/via/].
The University of Hawai'i is committed to providing library services to non-UH affiliated users such as business and industry, community groups, as well as scholars and researchers from other educational institutions. For information contact the Library External Services Program at 808-956-5956 email@example.com.
Since the UHM Libraries collections and services are developed for the support of UH students, faculty and staff, few juvenile materials will be found here. Children should be accompanied at all times for their safety and well being by a parent or adult. Children should never be left unsupervised. Children under the age of 13 who are unaccompanied by an adult may be referred to Campus Security. Parents, not the Library, are responsible for children's use of the Library, including access to electronic resources and the Internet.
