Library Instructional Services Mission Statement
The Library is dedicated to the promotion of scholarship and research by
providing all members of the University community with a comprehensive program
of instruction, including lectures, demonstrations, active-learning activities,
course management system modules, podcasts, videocasts, and more, tailored to
meet individual and group needs at all levels. Our primary goal is the
attainment of information fluency for all students, faculty, and staff at Manoa.
The Library encourages collegiality and collaboration between teaching faculty
and library faculty. Teaching faculty are invited to work with library
instruction faculty in designing course-related assignments that include
information fluency objectives. The program incorporates a variety of teaching
strategies and methodologies that reflect individual differences in learning
level, style, and culture.
Library instructional services strive to meet the following learning objectives by
helping students become familiar with:
- how information is created and disseminated;
- how to locate needed information on the Internet and in libraries;
- how to determine if the information retrieved is useful,
truthful, and relevant; and
- how to use information ethically, and cite it in an appropriate style.
