Clicking the buttons installs a search plugin in both IE 7 and Firefox 2. They add the ability to search the OPAC and Electronic Resources from the search box already in both browsers. The search plugins make it quicker and easier to access UH Library's resources.
The search plugins are safe. They do not change how the browser functions (apart from adding new fuctionality), there are no privacy concerns, no unwanted behaviors, and the plugins are easily deleted.
The search plugins add the ability to search the OPAC and Electronic Resources to the top right search bar in both browsers.
Access the search engine list by clicking on the icon to the left of the search box in Firefox and to the right of the search box in IE. Select "Hawaii Voyager" or "UH Electronic Resources" and enter a query.
The search plugins are implemented using OpenSearch xml specification. The Voyager search is a general keyword search. The Electronic Resources search uses all the fields available, meaning it is searching title, description, databases & indexes, journals, and online books.
