How to Request a Network Connection

Hamilton Library

  1. The staff member in Hamilton Library who requires a network connection gives her/his department head the following information:
  1. Data jack number, if any
  2. Room number where the data jack is located
  3. Description and serial number of the computer or other equipment to be connected to the data jack
  1. If the department head determines that a data jack installation is required, she/he forwards the request to the head of the division for approval.
  2. The division head forwards the request to the DNS Web Help Desk (Sinclair use: Web Help Desk).
  3. DNS prepares the appropriate UH Telecom Request and forwards it to the Library Fiscal Officer.
  4. Following data jack approval, DNS uses the serial number to verify the computer's hardware configuration, via an inventory database search, and orders the correct network card if one is needed.
  5. DNS installs the card in the computer and connects the equipment to the network when the data jack is ready.
  6. The Library Network Manager, DNS, assigns an IP address to the equipment and DNS configures the computer with the address.
