Desktop Network Services (DNS)

Gmail and Thunderbird Email Programs

UH ITS no longer supports Eudora. The current recommended email software client is Thunderbird (Windows) and for the Mac. DNS will install Thunderbird upon request as an option on library staff microcomputers. DNS will assist staff in configuring email programs with the correct mail server settings for accessing UH email. You can set up Thunderbird to download your mail onto a personal computer where the Thunderbird program is loaded if the POP option is used, or to keep copies on the mail server if the IMAP option is used.

DNS strongly cautions against using MS Outlook or Outlook Express because of the greater security risk with Microsoft Explorer-integrated mail clients.

UH no longer supports any "terminal" email programs. The official UH email program is Gmail (Google Mail). To configure a personal computer based email client with UH Google Mail and the IMAP option - please consult the ITS Google @ UH FAQ.
