UH ITS provides support for Eudora 5.1, the free version of the popular POP (Post Office Protocol) email client software from QUALCOMM, Inc. DNS will install the free downloadable version of Eudora upon request as an option on library staff microcomputers. DNS will assist staff in configuring email programs with the correct mail server settings. In addition to Eudora, staff may opt to use Netscape Mail, or MS Outlook Express (either through the Internet Explorer browser, or the MS Office suite).
HOWEVER Outlook Express is the most vulnerable to damage from, and transmission of, virus programs sent as email attachments. DNS strongly advises AGAINST using this program.
Mail is generally downloaded onto the personal computer where the program is loaded. This means that email saved in files through Eudora on one personal computer will not be seen when you later run Eudora or Pine somewhere else. A web-based version of Pine email is also available through ITS, by connecting to the URL http://mail.hawaii.edu
