Datajack Activation

DNS will activate data jacks when there is a microcomputer ready to connect to it. In order to do this, there must be an existing "phone jack" even if there is no phone in use. If the physical jack hardware does not exist, a line has to be installed by Verizon (the vendor of telecomm infrastructure on campus).

In the case of PERSONAL EQUIPMENT used at work: the computer must be made "network ready" before DNS will activate a jack to which it can be connected. See the FAQ item on Personal Equipment or send email to:micro@hawaii.edu if you have more specific questions.
