System Organization Charts

History of the System Organization Charts

The Legislature of the State of Hawaii stipulated that the University of Hawaii must prepare an organizational chart of the university annually. Beginning in 1987, the the president of the university assigned the Budget Office, a System-wide office under the vice president for finance and operations, with the responsibility of annually creating and maintaining organizational charts for the University System in order to satisfy legislative requirements. Currently (2008), the Budget Office of the University is under the Vice President of Budget and Finance. Usually the charts are divided into two general groupings: the UH System in one volume and UH Manoa in another volume.

In 2007, Mr. Edmund Leong of the Budget Office informed the Archives that the Budget Office planned to scan the collection for easier access. In 2008, the Budget Office completed the project and sent the original paper volumes to the University Archives. This first group was accessioned in October 2008 covering the years 1987-2007 and assigned the call number Manuscript A2008:024. Future paper accessions will be added to this same call number. Eventually, the records will be created and maintained digitally.

The arrangement of the materials is as they were received from the Budget Office.
