We hope you like our new design! The site was redesigned in response to user surveys and feedback from library faculty, staff, and students. Our goals were to make it more user-friendly and to use current web standards. Bob Schwarzwalder, Associate University Librarian for Information Technology, said,

The Library's main page receives an average of 21,000 hits a month and received 1,400,000 hits during 2005. It is a vital resource for the UH Manoa community. We want to create a streamlined and logical way for UHM students, faculty and researchers to access the information and resources they need.
We launched the website in December 2006 after a 6-month trial period. Schwarzwalder noted,
We support so much of the research and classroom activities on campus that to launch the new site too quickly could be disruptive to the campus. By delaying the switch until December (2006), we hope to allow students and faculty ample time to familiarize themselves with the new site before it is their only gateway to the Library's resources.

Library faculty and staff started working with the new site in July of 2006. Schwarzwalder noted,

We want to provide the best reference services possible. So we hope to prepare our faculty and staff to answer any and all questions that our users may have.

Content on the new site has been organized into three major areas: Research Tools (the UH Catalog, electronic journals, etc.), Personal Services (user account information and special requests), and About the Library (hours, locations, maps, etc.). The site features the ability to search the library catalog from the main page, a direct link from the main page to the electronic journals, the ability to browse by subject or academic major, and a drop-down list of featured resources databases.

If you spend some time at our site we'd like to receive your comments and suggestions. Please take a few minutes with our survey below.
