Estimates of call number ranges of the areas affected by the water leakage

Patrons need to go to the second floor first if books they want fall in these call number ranges. If books in need are not there, they, then, go to the third floor (makai/Diamond Head) near Room 301. If they still were not able to find books, they may want to request them via Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Building Manager report 10/5/11: For years we have had a problem with the mechanical rooms that are located directly above the stacks that are near Group Study Rooms 205-208. Periodically, these mechanical rooms become flooded, usually because of various drainage problems. When the mechanical rooms flood, the water seeps under the walls into Closed Shelves room 304 and also drips through the floor to the 2nd Floor below. In most cases, the problem is clogged drain lines, and all that is required is a mop job in Room 304 and some buckets in the 2nd Floor.

This time, a water pump failed. It failed some time during the night, so by the time the library opened, there was an inch of water on the mechanical room floor and a tropical rain forest on the floor below. When Phase I was renovated in 2001-2002, what had been a very large 3rd Floor air handler room (just air and fans) was converted into Closed Shelves room 304 and two mechanical rooms (containing water tanks and water lines). Unfortunately, they failed to provide a floor drain and a waterproofed floor in the new mechanical rooms. Thus, this morning's flood event.

On December 17, the President signed the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010. The printing and distribution of many tax forms were delayed pending the approval of this legislation. IRS is working to get the forms to libraries as soon as they can. Hawaii tax forms are in the process of being ordered and hopefully they will be ready by the beginning of February. Until our forms are received, please refer people to the following links below:
