LibQual+ 2003 | University of Hawaii at Manoa Library

The University of Hawai'i at Manoa was one of 316 academic institutions participating in the 2003 LibQUAL+, a service quality-assessment project. The project was sponsored by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) in collaboration with Texas A&M University. The project defines and measures library service quality across institutions and creates useful quality-assessment tools for libraries. As the UHM Libraries plan for the future, it is important to understand our users' perceptions and expectations so that we can provide the services you need. The survey was important because it will:

• Help us better understand how the UHM faculty, researchers, and students rate library services
• Allow us to compare and benchmark UHM results against other libraries to determine best practices
• Let us know where we can concentrate service improvements for UHM library users

The survey began after Spring Recess and ran through much of April 2003. Information distributed about, and after completion of, the survey:

• introduction
• discipline categories list
• results

Each participating library gathers a random sample of email addresses representative of their user population and sends a message to the sample encouraging recipients to complete the survey on the Web. Survey data are transmitted directly to the central LibQUAL+(TM) server database in Texas. Reports that provide information on how users perceive the quality of their library services are generated for the individual libraries.
