Native Voices: Native Peoples' Concepts of Health and Illness

This is the travelling version of an exhibit that is currently on view at the National Library of Medicine of the National Institutes of Health. Native Voices examines health and medicine among contemporary American Indians, Alaska natives, and Native Hawaiians, and explores the connection between wellness, illness, and cultural life through a combination of interviews, artwork, objects, and interactive media. Zoorkhane: The Heroic Sport of Iran

(07/14 - 12/14)

Zoorkhane, 'House of Strength,' is the traditional Iranian gymnasium where Varzesh-e bastani or 'Ancient Sport' is practiced. Varzesh-e bastani is one of the oldest continuing martial arts traditions in the world. This project was funded by the Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute and the UHM Undergraduate Research Awards.
