University of Hawai'i Gamelan Ensembles

October 2 - November 27, 2017
1st Floor, Hamilton Library

This month, the Hawaii Gamelan Ensemble is thinking their teacher Pak Susilo. He came to UHM in 1970 to teach Javanese gamelan. The ensemble is made up of students, alumni and community members, and is known to be the "Oldest-Continuously-Active Gamelan Ensemble in the U.S.A."

When a Javanese person passes away, it is customary for family and friends to observea series of official commemorations, the last occurring one thousand days after the passing. On Saturday the 18th of November, the University of Hawai'i Gamelan Ensembles will present a concert of Javanese and Balinese music and dance dedicated to Pak Hardja Susilo.

This exhibit is a small tribute to Pak Susilo.
