The University of Hawaii at Manoa Library provides eight computers in the Science/Technology Reference Area and 12 computers adjacent to the main lobby of Hamilton Library equipped with Microsoft Office 2000 software. These PCs are called Scholar Workstations and are intended for use by University of Hawaii at Manoa students, faculty and staff. The Scholar Workstations allow library users to do all or most of their educational and research work conveniently within Hamilton Library.
The workstations located in the
Science & Technology Reference Department are in room A-152 (Computer Room). The Computer Room is open during the regular
hours of Hamilton Library. There are also

flatbed scanners available.
Printing is available via a GoPrint station, at a cost of seven cents a page, and requires a "UHM Libraries Copy/Print Card." See the Library's Business Office to obtain a Card.
Usage
The Workstations are available only for current UHM students, faculty, and staff. Users must enter a valid, activated library barcode. (See
ID Registration for information about activating the card online or in-person.)
The library barcode is found at the bottom of student, faculty or staff ID cards (not a social security number). Users are expected to comply with
University and
Library computer use policies.
There is a time limit of two hours for use of the Scholar Workstations.
Software Available
In addition to Microsoft Office 2000, users have access to Windows Media Player, Notepad, Acrobat Reader, and Internet Explorer. Four of the Workstations have multilingual word processing capabilities. In the Sci/Tech Computer Room - in addition to the default of English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean are available from the language menu on some of the workstations.
Users are expected to know how to use the applications and refer to the applications' Help sections for assistance with software-related questions. Problems with hardware, printing, or Internet access in room A-152 should be reported to the Science & Technology Reference Department (
sciref@hawaii.edu); problems with the first floor PCs may be reported to Public Services

Downloading
Downloading may be done to floppy or zip (100 Mb) disks. CD-RW drives have been added to the PCs in room A-152. USB flash or thumb drives may be used at your own risk and with no guarantee of compatibility. (Note: USB ports are located at the rear of the CPU only.) Users are expected to bring their own disks. Files may be saved
temporarily to the Desktop or My Documents, however, users should be aware that such files will be purged periodically. Warning: the PC workstations will reboot automatically if left inactive for 10 minutes.
